Orou Sabi is moving cement from Cotonou to Parakou, then to Natitingou. The truck of Gildas Akpovi carries 400 bags for the Parakou hub. Halfway, the Parakou company calls: it needs only 300 bags, and Natitingou, further north, needs the other 100 urgently. A few days later, a pallet is found fallen off the truck. Orou must show, line by line, where each bag went. This page follows the goods of a transfer. It assumes the route already exists: see Plan and run stock transfers. The same steps apply to any business that moves stock through several steps.

Describe what travels on each run

A transfer is a series of steps. A run between two of them is a segment, and the goods it carries are its lines. When the plan is made at creation, the segments and lines come with it. To add a run later, Orou uses Add a transfer segment, naming the start and end steps. He can re-point it with Change a transfer segment, or drop an empty one with Delete a transfer segment. On a segment he adds each product and quantity with Add a transfer line: 400 bags of cement. He can say which locations or lots the goods leave from. Change a transfer line corrects the item or quantity, and Delete a transfer line removes a line. Stock does not move until the steps are started or approved. To read the plan: List transfer segments, View a transfer segment, List lines of a segment and View a transfer line. All companies on the route can read them once the transfer is no longer a draft.

Reroute goods already on the road

The truck has left Cotonou with the 400 bags for Parakou. Parakou now wants only 300. Orou uses Reroute goods in transit to send 100 bags on to Natitingou, a later step. The line splits in two: the original keeps 300 bags for Parakou and a new line carries 100 to Natitingou. The share of the transport cost that belongs to the 100 bags follows them.

Declare goods lost

On the road to Parakou, one pallet of 20 bags falls off the truck. Once the goods have left and not yet arrived, Orou declares the loss with Declare transferred goods lost: 20 bags are removed from what is still to be received. The Parakou line now expects 280 bags, and the route cost of the 20 lost bags is taken out of the segment. He reviews declarations with List loss declarations. Declaring a loss lets the transfer close without waiting for goods that will never arrive. It does not return anything to stock.

The rules

  • Only the company that owns the transfer adds, changes or deletes segments and lines, and only while the transfer is a draft or running.
  • A segment links two steps of the transfer, the destination after the source. A transfer cannot hold two segments between the same two steps. The legs between the two steps must form a complete, continuous path. Costs and times cannot be sent.
  • Changing the source step of a segment deletes the planned dispatches of that segment.
  • When the transfer runs, a segment, and the lines on it, cannot change once either step is current, done or skipped. A segment is deleted only when it has no lines.
  • A line needs an item tracked in inventory and a quantity of at least 1. Its remaining quantity starts equal to its quantity. Withdrawals, remaining quantity and cost cannot be sent.
  • When dispatches are sent, they must add up to the line quantity. The locations must belong to the source step’s group and be usable by the company, with no repeated source, and FIFO and explicit lots cannot be mixed for one location.
  • A line that has started executing, or whose remaining quantity differs from its quantity, cannot be changed or deleted.
  • Rerouting is for running transfers only. The line must already have left, with no reception recorded at its destination, and the remaining quantity must still equal the quantity. The quantity rerouted is at least 1 and strictly less than the line quantity. Both the original and the new destination steps must be upcoming, the new one after the original.
  • Rerouting is done by the owner or by the company that created the line.
  • A loss is declared on a running transfer, for a line with withdrawals and no reception at the destination. The quantity is between 1 and the remaining quantity, and type must be “loss”, the only type. It can be done by the owner or by a company able to operate the destination step.
  • A loss declaration cannot be removed.
  • Reading lines and loss declarations needs the line permission; reading segments needs the segment permission. Costs appear only to the owner.
